NC Local Health Departments’ QI Efforts Highlighted in NC General

The recently released Program Evaluation Division Report on the feasibility of the transfer of the Division of
Public Health to the University of North Carolina highlights the quality improvement work and progress being made within the NC public health system.  The Program Evaluation Division is a central, non-partisan staff unit of the Legislative Services Commission of the North Carolina General Assembly that assists the General Assembly in overseeing government functions. The mission of the Program Evaluation Division is to evaluate whether public services are delivered in an effective and efficient manner and in accordance with the law.

QI is mentioned throughout the report as an important strategy to strengthen NC’s public health system and make  programs within local health departments and at the state level more efficient and effective.  The report points out that numerous local health departments have been able to improve services and have achieved savings through their quality improvement efforts. The report also points out not only the potential return on investment communities can receive by incorporating QI, but how the savings can be made across the state.
